This is the video to Take on Me, Directed by Steve Barron and animated by Michael Patterson & Candace Reckinge.The video uses rotoscoping to combine pencil sketches and live-action footage.

I think this is a great technique, but the real reason that I’m posting it is to show that a lack of continuity in the lines/forms that build figures can have a positive effect. In this instance the lines and shading that form the animation are inconsistent, changing in tone, position and direction. I believe this is done to highlight the difference between the cartoon world and real world, and thus works well.
